ANGELO BUONOMO
BACKGROUND
Angelo started studying trumpet at age seven and continued to a point where he was able to read music. During that time, he listened to a lot of jazz recordings and immediately switched to drums after hearing the Benny Goodman Band with Gene Krupa on drums. Art Blakey, Max Roach, Roy Haynes, Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson, Joe Morello and many other great drummers of that era became his heros.
His two older cousins were also drummers and would give him pointers and let him play their drumsets.
His father wound up buying his first set from them and from that day forward, Angelo has never looked back.
Angelo's family moved from Brooklyn to Middle Village in 1956, where he began studying with a jazz teacher at the Mehlings Music School.
