Derek Ciminera

Derek started drumming at the age of eight and brings over 26 years of musical experience to his lessons. He is well versed in all styles of drumming and has over 10 years of formal training in Jazz, Rock, Reggae, Reading and Improvisation.

Derek enjoys teaching children as much as adults. He often suggests students bring material to lessons from drummers and bands they are interested in learning more about and encourages them to ask questions.
His main drumming influences include Buddy Rich, Carl Palmer, Stewart Copeland, Terry Bozzio (and many others).

Private Studies
Spent 3 years studying Afro-Carribean music (drumset, conga, timbale, bongo, shekere, guiro, etc.) with Bobby Sanabria at Drummers Collective.
 Studied with Richie Rodriguez for one year.
 Studied Brazillian Music (samba, baijon, bossa nova, etc) with Daduka Fonseca for 3 years.

Education
Participated in High School band, stage band and marching band.
 Studied privately for 8 years

Recording Experience
Session work with the group Cathedral at Z-Music Productions.
Recorded CD with Great Caesars Ghost.

Playing Experience
Played with a wide variety of original and cover bands throughout the Tri State area.
Currently playing with Sideshow Bob and Girly Blue.
